Kyle Hendricks Close to Returning

I wrote an article on the importance of Kyle Hendricks last week. The article was written before the blockbuster Quintana trade, but I don’t think anything changes regarding Hendricks importance to the Cubs. Read it here.

Kyle Hendricks threw five perfect innings in what is most likely his final rehab start yesterday for the Tennessee Smokies. Hendricks retired all fifteen batters with 3 K’s.

Kyle Hendricks.jpgWith Hendricks nearing his return to the rotation, the Cubs will have to make some tough decisions very quickly regarding the rotation. They will either have to potentially move John Lackey or Mike Montgomery to the pen, or part ways with a struggling John Lackey for good. This is a good problem to have.

My prediction: Mike Montgomery heads back to the pen and the Cubs give Lackey a few more starts to make his case to stick in the rotation. With a rotation of Jon Lester, Jake Arrieta, Jose Quintana, Kyle Hendricks & John Lackey, no series is going to be easy against the Cubs in the second half.
